My Obsidian vault starter template 😎

Obsidian Vault Starter Template

My Obsidian Vault Starter Template intented for personal use. 😊 I use this vault structure daily to keep things organized at work. The core idea is to write notes without worrying about organizing them first, link them to related topic MOCs, and use AI agents to find, summarize, or extract information when necessary.

Storing this on GitHub so I don't need to go through the setup process every time a new vault is created.

WIP Note: This template is subject to change. Planning to add more templates, agent skills, and other features if I find them useful.

Directory Structure

  • 📁 Archive/: A place for old, completed, or deprecated notes that you want to keep but remove from your active workspace.
  • 📁 Attachments/: Centralized folder for storing images, PDFs, audio files, and other media.
  • 📁 Daily Notes/: Daily journal or log entries. Useful for tracking daily tasks, thoughts, and progress.
  • 📁 Dashboards/: Index pages, kanbans, or other more complicated views aggregated using dataview.
  • 📁 Drafts/: Works in progress, rough ideas, or notes that are not yet categorized. New notes are saved here by default.
  • 📁 Knowledge Base/: Permanent, atomic notes (Zettelkasten style). A place for evergreen, synthesized knowledge. Move notes from Drafts/ to here when they are mature.
  • 📁 Templates/: Markdown templates for quickly creating new notes (e.g., daily notes, general notes, markdown presentations, and topic MOCs).
  • 📁 Topics/: Broad subject areas, domains, or Maps of Content (MOCs).
  • 📁 Weekly Summary/: Weekly summary reports generated by AI using a custom weekly-summary skill I made.
  • 📁 .agents/: Skills, prompts, instructions, and other reuable AI agent-related files.
  • 📁 .obsidian/: Local vault settings and plugin configurations.
  • 📁 copilot/: Copilot related files used by the copilot plugin.
